Graduate Intern Program

Join the Next Generation of Policy Leaders: Graduate Policy Internships at HSC Global

Welcome to the Health Strategy Collective [Global] (“HSC Global”) Graduate Policy Internship Program. We believe the next generation of policy leaders needs more than classroom preparation. They need proximity to the policy process, direct access to seasoned practitioners, and the confidence that comes from driving real-world work.

From week one, our policy interns conduct substantive research, contribute to professional deliverables, and engage with a network of professionals working at the intersection of federal healthcare policy, operational strategy, and institutional investment.

About HSC Global

HSC Global is a boutique, for-profit healthcare strategy firm. We bridge the gap between complex policy development, strategic operational implementation, and informed corporate investment in health delivery systems and life sciences ventures.

We conduct analysis and strategy across three integrated practice arms:

  • Policy

  • Operations

  • Financial Modeling & Investments

Our clients include hospital and health delivery systems, physician, dental, and allied health practices, pharmacies, pharmaceutical manufacturers, trade associations, and institutional investors, including hedge funds and private equity groups. We win on rigor and truth, a standard that applies equally to every team member and intern.

About the Program

The Graduate Policy Internship is a focused, 4-month term designed for graduate students seeking applied practice or experiential learning credit aligned with their academic calendar. Interns are placed within our Policy practice and work on a flexible, part-time schedule of 12–15 hours per week, allowing them to balance academic commitments while gaining intensive, hands-on policy training.

Our policy work goes beyond theory. Interns learn to translate legislative and regulatory developments into tangible operational and financial impacts for the organizations we advise, from health systems to investors, while keeping sight of what those policies mean for patients and communities.

Program Format & Location

Remote First: All regular operational work, research, and weekly team check-ins are conducted remotely.

Facilitated Travel: The program includes funded, in-person engagements in Washington, DC, including our signature Capitol Hill Day, typically coordinated during the Congressional Black Caucus Annual Legislative Conference (CBC ALC) week. Interns participate in guided Capitol Hill tours and face-to-face meetings with health legislative staff.

Compensation: This is an unpaid, experiential role structured for academic credit and professional portfolio building. All approved travel and work-related expenses for in-person engagements are fully covered by HSC Global.

Core Responsibilities

Policy interns build a broad base of systemic knowledge while actively contributing to firm deliverables. Core responsibilities include:

  • Issue Expertise: Develop deep knowledge of pressing public interest issues, focusing on healthcare policy, federal tax policy related to healthcare, and healthcare-related economic development.

  • Policy Publications: Contribute to rigorous reports, policy briefs, and analytical materials for policymakers, journalists, advocacy groups, and civic organizations, with opportunities to contribute to manuscripts submitted to peer-reviewed academic journals.

  • Legislative & Budget Tracking: Track and analyze real-time legislative proposals, federal budget changes, and regulatory rollouts.

  • Strategic Recommendations: Help translate policy analysis into evidence-based recommendations that show how legislative and regulatory changes affect business operations, financial performance, and patient outcomes.

  • Stakeholder Engagement: Engage with media representatives, federal policymakers, legislative staff, and national health and community organizations.

  • Community Collaboration: Partner with community-based advocates to communicate the local impacts of federal healthcare policy to the public.

Deliverables

Each policy intern completes:

  • Policy Brief or Analysis: Research and author a professional policy brief in a three-section format (Background, Problem, and Solution) written for a non-scientist, policy-literate reader, or an equivalent policy analysis approved by the firm.

  • Informational Coffees: Proactively schedule, prepare for, and lead weekly informational coffees with healthcare, investment, and government leaders within the firm’s professional network.

Requirements & Eligibility

We seek candidates with exceptional intellectual curiosity, strong academic achievement, and a demonstrated commitment to public service or health equity.

  • Education: Current graduate or professional students (MPH, MPP, MPA, MBA, MD, JD, PharmD, PhD, etc.) with a demonstrated interest in health policy.

  • Analytical Skills: Strong policy research, data translation, and analytical skills, with the ability to interpret complex regulatory environments and turn them into decision-useful insights.

  • Quantitative Skills (Preferred): Coursework or experience in health economics, healthcare finance, or financial modeling is a plus, but not required. Interns will build these skills through firm engagements.

  • Communication Skills: Outstanding written and oral communication. Ability to write clearly and directly for an intelligent general reader without hiding behind jargon.
